Bill Goichberg

William "Bill" Goichberg (born November 11, 1942) is a rated chess master and is the current President of the United States Chess Federation. He was elected USCF President on August 14 2005. He is a USCF Life Master and a FIDE Master, National Tournament Director and International Arbiter of FIDE (World Chess Federation).

Achievements

Goichberg was a USCF Rating Statistician between 1964 and 1967, after graduating from New York University in 1963. He became co-editor of Chess Life with Ed Edmondson in 1966. In 1968 he founded [http://www.chesstour.com Continental Chess Association] .

He organized numerous tournaments and became the first to run USCF rated scholastic tournaments (1966), rated Quads (1969) and non-smoking tournaments (1973).

From November 2003 to January 2004 he was USCF Office Manager, and became USCF Executive Director in 2004.

He was a member of USCF Policy Board (now called "Executive Board") between 1975-1978, 1989-1992 and 1996-1999.

Goichberg became president of the New York State Chess Association, which organizes chess tournaments in New York.

He was the captain of the world champion U.S. Chess Olympiad team in 1976.

He is co-editor of "Official Rules of Chess" (1993) ISBN 0-8129-2217-4, and wrote many Chess Life articles.
