It broadcasts on the class C0 105.1 MHz frequency with an ERP of 100,000 watts (100 kilowatts) from a transitter that is shares with sister station WEDR near Opa Locka. According to Arbitron, WHQT has been the top-rated radio station in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale radio market since late 2004.

History

On January 10, 1985 at 6 a.m., low-rated AC station, E-Z 105 changed format and calls to urban contemporary "WHQT", "Hot 105FM". It started out as a Top 40 CHR with Nolan Thomas' "Yo Little Brutha" as the first song. However, with fierce competition from Y-100, 96X (later WPOW/Power 96), and I-95, Hot 105 dropped Top 40 in favor of urban hip hop in 1988. Its main competitor was future sister station, "WEDR, 99 Jamz", and the two stations competed over the 18-49 African American demographic until the mid-1990's. Around that time Cox purchased both stations which led to the end of their competition. WHQT was then skewed more urban AC towards the 25-54 demograhic with a more current R&B and soul-heavy playlist. Hot 105 became one of the original affiliates of the nationally syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show when it debuted in 1994. For some time it was the only R&B/Soul station in the market until October 2006 when it gained competition from WMIB, an Urban/Hip Hop-turned-AC station.
