"By the Sea" is a quick film Charlie Chaplin made while waiting for a studio to work in Los Angeles. He just left Niles Essanay Studio after doing five films at that location. "By the Sea" was filmed all on location at Crystal Pier in April 1915. The story centers on Charlie and how he gets into trouble trying to grab the attention of the ladies on the beach. Edna Purviance plays one of the wives in whom Charlie shows interest.

ynopsis

It is windy at a bathing resort. After fighting with one of the two husbands, Charlie approaches Edna while the two husbands themselves fight over ice cream. Driven away by her husband, Charlie turns to the other's wife.
