Audio|Vaksdal.ogg|Vaksdal is a municipality in the county of Hordaland, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Midhordland. The administrative centre is the village of Dalekvam.

Vaksdal was created as a new municipality on January 1, 1964 after the merger of parts of Bruvik, Evanger, and Modalen.

General Information

Name

The Old Norse form of the name was probably "Vágsdalr". The first element is the genitive case of "vágr" which means "bay" and the last element is "dalr" which means "valley" or "dale".

Coat-of-arms

The coat-of-arms is from modern times. They were granted in 1990. It shows three shuttles for weaving, which represents the textile industry of the municipality.
