Aaron Roderick Gillespie is the drummer/clean vocalist for the band Underoath, and is the lead vocalist for The Almost.

Personal life

Gillespie was born in Clearwater, Florida and grew up in a devout Christian family. He has one step brother named Jordan Stone (1990) from new jersey. Gillespie grew up in a poor family. He attended private schools and was an active member in church growing up. Gillespie's parents divorced when he was 18. Gillespie married his sweetheart Jamie Anne Robertson on November 25, 2006. They were married by close friend Pastor Steele Croswhite. Gillespie moved to Salt Lake City, Utah so that his wife could live close to his family. While in Utah, they regularly attended Jamie's home church [http://www.experiencetherock.com The Rock Church] . Later, Aaron and Jamie moved back to Florida, and they now live in Tarpon Springs, FL.

Gillespie is tattooed and reportedly a big tattoo enthusiast. He is said to be a huge fan of the artist Kurt Halsey. Gillespie is blind in his left eye, but contrary to popular belief, is not color blind in his right eye. [They're Only Chasing Safety Two Disk DVD footage. Musical career

Aaron's mother had an interest in music, and he was around it his "whole life".cite web|url=http://underoath777.com/profile.php?id=aaron| title=About Me|publisher=Underoath777.com| accessdate=2006-09-12] When Gillespie was 14, he was asked to drum for the band Underoath after former guitarist Luke Morton's father witnessed Gillespie playing drums in church. In 2002, the Underoath album "The Changing of Times" was released in which Gillespie began to add harmonic vocals to the songs. Eventually, when lead vocalist Dallas Taylor parted ways with the band, Underoath went through various changes in style, and by 2004, when "They're Only Chasing Safety" was released, Gillespie sang harmonic vocals to counter new lead vocalist Spencer Chamberlain. Gillespie continued playing the drums at the same time; he is the only member to be featured on every Underoath recording to date.

Underoath's 2004 release "They're Only Chasing Safety" was, for the most part, written about Gillespie's end of a four year relationship. He told Alternative Press, "I think I would've died if we didn't write those songs. I thought I had ruined someone's life. It's hard to explain, but you can't just pretend that things are great and go on and get married."cite book |last= Staddonl |first= Tristan |title= Underoath |publisher= Alternative Press |year= 2006 |month= October] Underoath's second album with vocalist Chamberlain, "Define the Great Line", was certified Gold by the RIAA on November 11, 2006, representing 500,000 shipped units of the album. It is the second album in Tooth & Nail history to reach that distinction.

Gillespie also provides lead vocals for his side project The Almost. The Almost's debut record, "Southern Weather", was released on April 3, 2007, and was recorded in February and March 2006. Gillespie had recorded all the instruments featured on the album, with the exception of bass on a few tracks where lead vocalist and bass player from the band The Starting Line, Kenny Vasoli, provided bass. "Southern Weather"'s first single "Say This Sooner", had reached a peak at #7 on the Billboard's US Modern Rock Charts.

Gillespie continues to tour with both bands, providing vocals for "The Almost" when "Underoath" is on a touring hiatus, and drumming for "Underoath" when "The Almost" is on touring hiatus.

While on tour with Underoath in 2007 in Las Vegas,Nevada, Gillespie went through emergency surgery on an infection in his hand. Instead of cancelling shows, Underoath recruited Kenny Bozich, of The Almost for drums and Chamberlain and Timothy McTague covered his vocals.

He is featured in the song "My God" by This Beautiful Republic

Underoath recently released a new CD on September 2nd called, " Lost in the Sound of Separation."
