Herbert O. Dunn

Herbert Omar Dunn (1857-1939), U.S. Navy rear-admiral, was the first commander of the U.S. Naval Base at Ponta Delgada, Azores, distinguishing himself with the help provided to the civil population when the great 1918 flu pandemic killed 2000 people on the island.

Later he was in charge of an inquiry of homosexual activities among naval personnel at Newport, Rhode Island Navy bases.
