intl =Hamburger Hochbahn AG or HHA is a company operating the underground system and large parts of the bus system in
Hamburg ,Germany .History
On
May 27 1911 the company was founded by Siemens & Halske and AEG as a consortium. Since 1912 it is the private holder of the new build railway. The first chairman wasAlbert Ballin [Joachim Häger, „Hammonia und ihre U-Bahn“, Hamburg 1986, ISBN 3-7672-9967-4]In 1965 the company was one of the founders of the "
Hamburger Verkehrsverbund ".::"Section translated from Hamburg Hochbahn
Operations
HHA operate about 120 bus lines in
Hamburg and the three underground lines that currently exist inHamburg . In spite of the "U" for "underground", large portions of the net, especially outside the inner city run on the surface. Some parts of the underground, notably along the banks of RiverElbe in the city, are elevated above the ground (hence the name "Hochbahn" for "elevated railways").HHA is the second largest public transport operator in Germany and the major partner in the "Hamburger Verkehrsverbund".Fact|date=May 2008
