A medical practitioner is a
Medical Doctor who is registered with the relevant body, and as such is licenced to practice medicine. In theUnited Kingdom for example, theGeneral Medical Council (GMC) is legally obliged to maintain a Principal List of Registered Medical Practitioners. Those with an appropriate medical degree may be admitted to the list, and as such are then able to legally practice medicine. A medical practitioner is a someone who proficiently engages inmedicine or related medical arts as aprofession ,career , or more rarely, as anavocation . It includes those engaging in medical specialties, Physicians, General Practitioners and all other grades ofdoctor such as interns andfoundation house officer .Surgeons are also classed as medical practitioners as they are included in the Principal List of Registered Medical Practitioners.
