Fyodor Volkov he inaugurated the first Russian theatre in his nativeYaroslavl (1750), later moving with the rest of the troupe toSt Petersburg (1756). His tragic parts inAlexander Sumarokov 's plays were admired byCatherine the Great and her friendEkaterina Dashkova . Later, he delivered lectures on theatre in theRussian Academy , of which he was a member.
