Southern Tutchone

Southern Tutchone

The Southern Tutchone are a First Nations people living mainly in the southern Yukon in Canada. The Southern Tutchone language, originally spoken by the Southern Tutchone people is a lect of the Tutchone language, part of the Athabaskan language family, although it may be argued that Northern and Southern Tutchone are separate languages. The Southern Tutchone language is related to all Athapaskan languages that have tone that is low-marked, while Northern Tutchone is related to all Athapaskan languages that have tone that is high-markeddubious.

Southern Tutchone First Nations governments and communities include:
*Champagne and Aishihik First Nations "(Haines Junction, Yukon, Champagne, Yukon, Aishihik, Yukon)"
*Ta'an Kwach'an Council "(Whitehorse, Yukon and Lake Laberge)"
*Kluane First Nation "(Burwash Landing, Yukon)"

As well, many citizens of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation in Whitehorse are of Southern Tutchone origin, and many Champagne and Aishihik citizens also live in Whitehorse.
