Early life and education
Niemietz was born in Chicago. In 2000, she relocated to Los Angeles, where she currently resides.[1] She attended Saugus High School in Saugus, California.
Career
In 2002, Sara made her Broadway debut at age ten when she played young Carol Burnett in the play Hollywood Arms with a cast including Linda Lavin, Michele Pawk, Donna Lynne Champlin, and Frank Wood.[2] Renown director, Hal Prince, commented that Sara, “possesses an extraordinary voice and acting honesty, and a personality that leaps across the stage.” [3]
While in New York, Sara played the lead role of Pamela in Pamela's First Musical, a musical adapted from the book by Wendy Wasserstein (music from Cy Coleman and David Zippel). Ms. Wasserstein called Sara “an astonishing performer.” [4]
In 2006, Niemietz released her first album, "Live at the Cat Club," which included live recordings from her set at the Cat Club.[5] Sara teamed up with acclaimed producer John Boylan in 2008, for her second release, an EP entitled Without a Net.[6]
Niemietz's voice can be heard on a multitude of recordings. In the film, Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper, she sings the end-title song, "I'm On My Way." [7] She worked with film composer, Christopher Young in 2005, providing vocals for the score of The Exorcism of Emily Rose and again in 2008 for The Uninvited. When asked about Sara's work, Young responded, "Without Sara’s voice, there would be no score." [8]
Her film and television appearances include the role of Polly in the feature film Akeelah and the Bee and roles in Providence, Gilmore Girls, and First Monday. Sara also played the role of Patrice at the LA premiere of Jason Robert Brown and Dan Elish's musical, 13 (musical) in 2007, for which the Daily Variety described her as a “standout” with “genuine warmth.” [9]
In 2010, Sara began work on Glee as the on-screen guitarist. Niemietz is currently writing and collaborating with composer W. G. Snuffy Walden and has begun releasing her new music on her official website.[10]
On May 4, 2011 Sara made an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show after Ellen saw her YouTube video and asked to have her on "immediately." [11]
