Awards Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross Otto Hartmann (11 September 1884 – 10 July 1952) was a highly decorated General der Artillerie in the Wehrmacht during World War II. He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Otto Hartmann was captured in 1945 by Allied troops and was held until 1947.
