Oswin Mascarenhas

Oswin Mascarenhas is a academic and educator from Karachi, Pakistan.

St Patrick's High School and St. Patrick's College have the distinction of having had Prof. Mascarenhas as the only lay-person as principal of both institutions. He was well known for his contribution firstly to St. Patrick’s College, first as the Dean of the Commerce section and later as the principal (1971 – 1975). He was also among the first to have served the College both as private and government institutions. He has been a teacher and principal to thousands of students.

Between 1976 and 1993 he worked for the Oxford University Press in Karachi.

Being an educator[1] and administrator, with an MA (Oxon) his services were much sought after and he became the principal of St. Patrick’s High School from 1993 to 2000 where he raised the standard of the school, gave ample opportunities for teachers to get refresher training and encouraged sporting and other talents among students.

Mascarenhas was also instrumental in organizing a special function for the then Chief Executive of the Country, General Pervez Musharraf, an old boy of the school (1958/59) who wished to come to his Alma Mater and meet former teachers, students and the current faculty.[2]

He is actively involved in the governance of charitable institutions like Darul Sukun and other civic institutions.[3]

Oswin Mascarenhas, as a former principal of St. Patrick’s College and School was feted at a dinner held in Karachi on April 24, 2010, by alumni of both institutions.
