R. Ted Cruz (born 1970) was the Solicitor General of the State of
Texas in theUnited States from January 2003 to May 2008. He was appointed by TexasAttorney General Greg Abbott . He left the Solicitor General's office to join the private law firm ofMorgan, Lewis & Bockius on May 12, 2008. Princeton University andHarvard Law School . While in university, he was one of North America's top-ranked parliamentary debaters, winning the top speaker award at the 1992North American Debating Championship and a semi-finalist at the 1995World Universities Debating Championship .He also attended Faith West Academy in
