Education and Early Life
Johnson was born, raised, and received his primary and secondary education in Cambridge, England. He studied at the Welsh School of Architecture at Cardiff University, receiving his undergraduate degree in Architecture in 2002. Johnson became a full-time artist following a stint as a racing driver in Formula Ford 1600, joining the regional championship PA Motorsport Team.[1] Johnson, who holds dual British and American citizenship, summers in North Haven, Maine, a place he often cites as inspirational due to its landscapes, culture and sentimental influences.

Johnson’s works cover a diverse range of subjects using a variety of media and scales. Johnson’s art is typically characterized by vibrant colors and bold images. Johnson lists David Hockney, Howard Hodgkin and Robert Indiana among his influences. Johnson’s early works prominently feature the natural world- both animate and landscape. Johnson has completed many rural studies and urban landscapes notable for their architectural aspects. His portrait subjects include his personal acquaintances, US politicians (including Hannah Pingree) and influential members of Cambridge University, including his father, Gordon Johnson . In 2009 Johnson introduced his Highbury Library Collection, focusing on the places and people of the Arsenal Football Club, of which he is a lifelong fan. The series includes original paintings as well as screen prints for which he worked with Master Printer, Kip Gresham at The Print Studio Cambridge. Johnson’s art is held in private collections worldwide, as well as being on institutional loans and in public displays.[2] Johnson's art has been displayed by the North Haven Gallery, Maine, Wolfson College and Hughes Hall, Cambridge, The Candid Galleries, London, The Royal Institute of Watercolour Painters at The Mall Galleries, London and The Royal Academy of Arts.
