Oregon Community Credit Union, which was founded as Lane Federal Credit Union and then was called U-Lane-O Credit Union from 1981 to 2003,[1] is a credit union based in Eugene, Oregon, USA,[2] owned by more than 100,000 members.[3]

History

It was established in 1956 by a group of employees working for the state government who "pooled their money together in a shoe box."[4] It is now the third largest[4] of 84 credit unions in Oregon,[5] serving ten counties.[4]

In 2003, the credit union considered merging with Portland Teachers Credit Union (now OnPoint Community Credit Union), the largest credit union in the state.[6] The two did not end up merging.[7]

Services

The credit union has seven branches in Eugene, Oregon, two in suburban Springfield, and one in Salem.[14] It publishes a quarterly newsletter, The Oregonizer.[15]

The University of Oregon (UO) and the credit union partnered to make the Oregon Community Credit Union Scholarship Program, which offered UO students an annual scholarship of $4,800. Any enrolled UO student who graduated from high school in one of the ten Oregon counties in which membership registration for the credit union is available and who had at least a 3.50 GPA was eligible for the scholarship. The offer ended when the UO accepted applications by April 15, 2010.[16]

The credit union offers investing, mortgages, home equity, auto loans and other loans, banking accounts, online banking, and debit and credit card services.[17] It has been hiring, carefully though, despite the recent economic recession.[18]

Awards

In 2009, readers of Eugene's main newspaper, The Register-Guard, awarded the credit union as the best in Lane County for "lots of branches and great friendly service."[19] The credit union again won the award in 2010[20] and in 2011.[21]
