Oneword.com

oneword.com is a website which allows the user to play a common writer's prompt exercise, giving the user sixty seconds to write about one word. Its primary function being to assist in releasing one's "internal editor".

History

The idea for oneword.com was first realized in the summer of 1999. The concept behind oneword.com is based upon a group writing exercise where someone would call out a word, and then the others would have to write continuously until the moderator said "stop!". Oneword is an automated and simplified version of this exercise.

It wasn't until 2003 that the author discovered MovableType; a publishing software platform and discovered that he was able to tweak the software in a way that would allow him to bring the writing exercise to digital fruition.

Within two weeks of launching the site, it piqued the attention of Yahoo! and was listed as their Site Of The Day for January 24, 2003^[1]. This brought thousands of users to oneword and attracted a steady stream of serious writers, as well as gained popularity with educators and was incorporated into many gradeschool, college, and literary websites.

As of this writing, oneword is being redeveloped as its own Standalone software, and will be implementing Facebook integration. After only a few weeks of its creation the oneword Facebook group already has over 1000 members.
