- Oklahoma Union Public Schools
-
Oklahoma Union High School, located in the town of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, was established in 1988. It was founded as a way to combine three local town schools in the area. The school mascot are the cougars.
The three schools in the area were Wann, Lenepah, and Delaware. They were small-town schools and the State of Oklahoma did not wish to fund them, nor did Nowata County. So in 1988 two of the three schools agreed to consolidate. Delaware, however did not. Wann and Lenapah successfully combined. After a few years Delaware started going south. Even though the school was there, Delaware parents wished to move their children there, which technically qualified in the district. After about five years of Union's establishment, Delaware Public Schools officially closed and merged with Oklahoma Union Public Schools.

Cougar sports
As of today, Oklahoma Union is listed as a 2A sports class (however football they are Class A),and they do not have very much success except for the 1997 2A Girls State Championship, and in 2004 when the Cougars football team went all the way to Class A State Regional. The coach of that championship squad was David Lampton. Lampton continues to coach at the school today. The sports program at the school includes football, boys and girls basketball, baseball, weightlifting, fast-pitch softball, and girls volleyball. Former sports that have folded included a golf and wrestling program. Rumors exist that the high-school athletes are pulling for a soccer team, but it does not look very promising due to the lack of local competition.
Sports rivalries
The sports program has a few rivals that they compete against. They biggest rival that they consider would be the Copan Hornets. The Copan Hornets are the Cougars' rivals in baseball but most notably in basketball. The atmosphere in basketball games is tense. Another rival is the Ketchum Warriors that the Cougars face in football and in weightlifting. Actually the weightlifting rivalry has spread to an official trophy rivalry. The Cougars and Warriors started trading a helmet that decorates a cougar paw on one side and a warrior spear on another. The helmet was exchanged first in 2007.
