Oakland High School (OHS) is located within Murfreesboro, Tennessee and contains approximately 1600 students. OHS is part of the 6th largest school system in the state of Tennessee.[2] OHS serves eastern Murfreesboro and the rural areas of northeastern and eastern Rutherford County, including Lascassas, Milton and Kittrell.

History

OHS was built and opened at the same time as its sister school Riverdale High School (Tennessee) in order to relieve the over-populated Central High School (Murfreesboro, Tennessee).

Curriculum

Since 2008, Oakland High School has offered the IB Diploma Programme.[3]

Athletics

Known state-wide for Boy's Basketball, Swimming, Baseball, and Soccer.

  • OHS Basketball has had 18 District Championships, 9 Region Championships, 9 State Tournaments appearances, 4 State Final Fours, including the 2010 District Championship.
  • OHS Football has had 3 State Championships 1984, 1998, and 2008.
  • OHS Baseball won two State Championships in 1999 & 2000.
  • OHS Tennis - won 2009 & 2010 Girls District Championship.
  • Numerous state tournament appearances in boys and girls tennis.
  • Known for All-American baseball players and track athletes.

  • Philip Pettit, professional golfer, qualified for the 2007 US Open as an amateur.
  • Ben Leming, candidate for the United States House of Representatives in Tennessee's 6th congressional district[4]
  • Chris Young (singer), Country Music Singer
  • 50. cal, Rapper who now lives in Oakland, California AKA The Bay
  • Michael Howard , 100 % disabled Persian Gulf War veteran due to exposure of toxic chemicals.
  • Ron Sunshine, professional deep sea fisherman / professional poker player. Winner of the 2003 Offshore Fisherman of the Year Award.
