New building and masjid
On September,22,2010 the Nur Islamic School of Louisville board of directors closed on the deal and officially own the building on Six Mile Lane. The Board has settled on a name for the Masjid and a name for the school and masjid combined as one center. The Masjid is to be named Masjid At-Tawheed. The masjid and school combined will be named the "Guiding Light Islamic Community Center" (GLICC for short) An opening date for the masjid is still pending. The Nur Middle school moved into the building over Thanksgiving break. They began classes on November,29,2010. The elementary school is scheduled to join them on January,3,2011.
The masjid continues to be renovated from a church format to a masjid format. The steeple has been removed from the roof of the old church. The stage and baptism tub have been removed as well. An opening date for the masjid is still pending.
Several renovations were needed following the school's purchase of the building. The school section's renovations have been completed, excluding the high school section which will not be available for use until the 2011-2012 school year or later. The remaining portions have been completed. New walls were constructed in an exceptionally big room on the second floor to divide the room into three separate sections. New tiles were laid throughout the school's hallways and classrooms. Various rooms were also painted. Two rooms had walls knocked down which made them larger in size. The board had stated that the school was their top priority to renovate before the masjid. Due to the school's urgency to move from the Buechel Bank location. The school hopes that the building will not only create a more spacious environment for their current students, but will also bring more people to attend the school simply because they will have a plentiful amount of space.
