Northwestern University Master of Science in Education Program

The Master of Science in Education program, or MSEd program, is the teacher preparation graduate school program at Northwestern University. The MSEd program is part of Northwestern's School of Education and Social Policy (SESP). The school is located in Evanston, Illinois, about 12 miles north of downtown Chicago. SESP consistently ranks among the top graduate schools of education in the nation. The 2010 US News and World Report ranking places Northwestern's SESP as 8th nationwide.[1]

Mission

To understand and improve human learning and development throughout the life span and in multiple contexts — in classrooms and schools as well as within families, in communities, in the workplace, and in elective learning environments.[2]

Academics

There are 15 courses required to complete the program. Students can choose to take courses full- or part-time, and students typically finish the program in one to two years. Students are required to complete a Master's Project as part of the program. For the Master's Project, students explore personal questions of interest and concern.
