Norman Carlson is best known for his direction of the Federal Bureau of Prisons from 1970–1987 and longtime involvement with this bureau. During his 30 year involvement, he served in the United States Penitentiary of Leavenworth, Kansas, and also in the Federal Correctional Institution of Ashland, Kentucky. He was President of the American Correctional Association from 1978 to 1980 and was the Adjunct Professor for the Department of Sociology at University of Minnesota for 11 years (1987–1998). Since 1994, he has served the GEO Group, Inc. as a board member: Director, Chairman of Operations & Oversight Committee, Chairman of Independent Committee and Member of Corporate Planning Committee.

Norman Carlson was born in 1934 and has served for the Federal Bureau of Prisons and currently serves the GEO Group, Inc.
