- Radio Rennes Bretagne
Radio Rennes Bretagne was a
radio station based inRennes , and the first station to have regularBreton language programming (However, it was not powerful enough to broadcast to the Breton-speaking parts of the region.) From November1940 to June1944 the station broadcastbilingual programming by switching over toRadio Paris for one hour each week.During
World War II , the station was placed under the care of professorLeo Weisgerber , a linguist fromMarburg andSonderführer of the occupying German army. Acquired under the guise of the Breton cause, it became a vehicle for racist and anti-semitic ideas.Roparz Hemon led the station. He focused on a cultural and intellectual, rather than political course of action. Unlike Radio Paris, Radio Rennes Bretagne never broadcast Nazipropaganda . Instead, racist ideas were subtly inserted into programmes which had high cultural content."Management team": Leo Weisgerber (Director),
