Niederaußem is a city part of Bergheim, North Rhine-Westphalia, located 18 km west of Cologne. Niederaußem has 6000 inhabitants. Niederaußem is supraregional well-known by the power station Niederaußem.
History
Different finds already occupy human life in Niederaußem in the recent Stone Age (4000 v. Chr.). Around 50 v. Chr. took over the Romans also the areas of the today's Niederaußem. The Franks established here some yards. In the Middle Ages the village was governed by the Archbishops of Cologne. Niederaußem became later part the county Jülich. 20. Century was coined/shaped in Niederaußem of enormous economic upswing by the Lignite industry. Until today Niederaußem is one of the most important suppliers for energy from Lignite in Europe.
