-
Nicholas Bain[?1824- December 15, 1854, also known as "Nicholas Beheehan"[1], was an Irish farmhand who worked for James and Francis Wickam on the Wickam Farmhouse on Long Island, New York. Bain murdered the Wickams on June 2, 1854.[1].
Events leading up to the murders
Bain had become romantically involved with Ellen Holland, a female servant of the household, but a dispute had arisen between them which led to James Wickam dismissing Bain from his service on June 1, 1854.[2]
The murders
In the early hours of June 2, 1854 Bain murdered the Wickams with an axe[1].
He was arrested in the early morning of June 6[3]. On December 15, 1854 Nicholas Bain was hanged for murder. He is said to haunt the farmhouse.[citation needed]
