Location
New Manchester High School was built on an 80-acre site located on Boundary Waters Parkway in Douglasville, Georgia on Highways 92 and 166. The school is located one mile from the Fulton County and Douglas County border near Boundary Waters Park.
About New Manchester
New Manchester has 102 classrooms, and the school holds 1,975 students. The school mascot is the Jaguar.
The anticipated turnover date of the facility to the school district is between March and June 2011. It has opened for the 2011-2012 school year for grades 9 through 12. Juniors and seniors in the NMHS attendance zone has had the option of attending New Manchester High School or remaining at their current school.[1]
Administration
The Douglas County Board of Education has named Constance Craft the school's inaugural principal. She has been the principal of Douglas County High School from 2006 to 2011 and was its assistant principal from 2002-2006. At Alexander High School, Craft was an administrative assistant from 2001–2002 and an English language arts teacher from 1999-2001.
Craft's educational credentials include: educational specialist (L-6), Jacksonville State University; educational leadership (L-5), University of West Georgia; M.Ed, West Georgia College; and B.S., Ed., University of Georgia.[2]
Fhonda Strong was named assistant principal at New Manchester High School at the January 4, 2011 Douglas County Board of Education meeting. A 14 year veteran employee, Mrs. Strong has been a Math Instructional Coach for the district since 2009.
Strong's educational credentials include: University of West Georgia, Ed.S and L5, Educational Leadership; Piedmont College, M.Ed, Mathematics; and University of Georgia, B.S. Ed, Mathematics.[3]
Shawn Bissell was named Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at New Manchester High School at the January 18, 2011 Douglas County Board of Education meeting. A twelve year veteran of the Douglas County School System and Alexander High School, Mr. Bissell has been a Credit Recovery/Coordinated Career Academic Teacher at the school since 2006. Prior to his current position he was a Science Teacher at Alexander. His coaching experience includes Girls Soccer Varsity Coach, 2000-present; Assistant Football Coach, 1999-present; Assistant Basketball Coach, 1999-2003, 2005; and Girls Soccer Assistant Coach, 1999-2000.
Mr. Bissell's educational credentials include: M.S., Secondary Administration, Jacksonville State University; Teaching Certification, University of West Georgia; and B.S. Biology, Georgia Southern University.[4]
Athletics
According to the Georgia High School Athletic Association, New Manchester will be competing in Region 6AAA.[5] It has been determined that New Manchester will compete in a varsity non-region schedule during the first year of enrollment. There will be a region realignment for the 2012-2013 school year.
