Neotropical Primate Conservation] (NPC) was founded in 2007 as a non-profit organization and awarded UK charity status in August 2009 (Registered Charity number 1131122). NPC was set up in order to promote the conservation of Neotropical forest habitat, primates and all wildlife through various means, including: land protection; research; improvement of degraded habitat for wildlife; creation of public awareness; environmental education; and facilitating the commercialisation of sustainable, ecological products on behalf of local people.[1].
Some of the projects run by NPC
The project includes the creation of community run reserves to protect the Critically Endangered yellow tailed woolly monkey, and many sympatric species such as the Andean night monkey, long whiskered owlet, Spectacled Bear and royal sunangel.
Aims for the creation of a network of institutions, communities and individuals who can help each other in undertaking conservation initiatives.
Concentrating on the propagation of native tree species which benefit both human populations and wildlife such as: Cedrela montana, Croton, Styloceras laurifolium, Erythrina edulis, Alnus acuminata and Plukenetia.
