Neil Nongkynrih is a pianist, composer and conductor born in 1970 in the town of Shillong, Meghalaya. He is one of the most well known musical figures in North East India, most notably for founding the Shillong Chamber Choir which shot to fame after winning India's Got Talent(Season 2) in 2010.
Biography
He was trained at the Guildhall School of Music, London and the Trinity School of Music, London. His main mentor was the Viennese pianist Katharina Wolpe who is the daughter of the composer Stephan Wolpe. He has also written an opera in his native language Khasi called Sohlyngem which is based on a folktale about a girl who turns into a bird.[1] He was given the highest state award, 'The Tirot Singh Award' by the Govt. of Meghalaya in 2010. He along with his choir were amongst the Forbes India Persons Of the Year in 2010.[2]
