Neil L. Durrance (born 1956)[1] is an American politician. He has served two terms on the city council of Denton, Texas. Recently, he served as Chairman of the Denton County Democratic Party.[2]
Background
Durrance was born in Salina, Kansas.[1] A long-time citizen of Denton, Durrance holds a Bachelor of Science in political science from the University of North Texas and a law degree from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. After graduating from Washburn University School of Law in 1981, Neil began his legal career in Texarkana, Texas where he practiced before both the Texas and Arkansas bars. He has also been admitted to appear before the Supreme Court of the United States, United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and US Eastern, Southern, and Northern District Courts. In 1988, Neil moved back to Denton and opened a general law practice.[3]
2010 Campaign
After an uncontested Democratic Primary election, Durrance became the Democratic candidate for Texas's 26th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives, a seat held by incumbent Michael C. Burgess (R). The 26th District encompasses most of Denton County (including most of Lewisville) a good sized chunk of central Tarrant County[4]
After raising $104,462 in campaign contributions,[5] Durrance won 30.7% of the vote in a heavily Republican district.[6]
