National Workers Party (Pakistan)

National Workers Party (Pakistan)

On 1 May 1999, the Awami Jamhoori Party, Pakistan Socialist Party and a faction of Pakistan National Party (led by Baloch leader Ghaus Bakhsh Bizenjo) formed the National Workers Party (NWP [1]). Abid Hassan Minto was elected its first President and holds the office to date by election.

Together with the Communist Mazdoor Kissan Party (CMKP), it is one of the two current major communist political formations/parties in Pakistan. For a history of the communist movement in Pakistan, see Communist Party of Pakistan.

The party is currently in the process of merging with the Communist Mazdoor Kissan Party and the Labour Party Pakistan.

Alliances

The NWP is a part of the All Pakistan Democratic Movement (APDM) and the Awami Jamhoori Tehreek (AJT) at present.
