Pearman was drafted in 2005 - 4th round (26th pick) by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
His rookie season, he rushed for 149 yards and a touchdown on 39 attempts (3.8 yards per carry), but proved himself a receiving threat from the backfield with 32 catches for 240 yards (7.5 per catch), 11 of those catch's resulting in first downs. He caught 5 passes three times in wins against Pittsburgh and Houston, and had 5 catches for 42 yards against the Denver Broncos who fielded one of the leagues top defenses. He was second on the team in 5 catch games behind Jimmy Smith.
In his first NFL game, he forced a fumble on the opening kickoff which resulted in a field goal. The rest of the season, he would prove himself a valuable commodity in kickoff coverage.
However, he also tallied five fumbles. They came during the majority of his most productive games as well. His last fumble was in the 28-3 loss to the New England Patriots in the wild card round of the 2005 playoffs.
Pearman handled the bulk of the club's punt returns, averaging 8.4 yards on 49 attempts during the regular season. He also lead the entire league with 49 punt returns.
At seasons end, he posted 986 all purpose yards, the fourth best number by a Jaguars rookie behind fellow 2005 draftee Derrick Wimbush, rookie Maurice Jones-Drew and Fred Taylor.
