Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools covers a 591-square-mile (1,530 km2) area covering all of Nash and part of Edgecombe counties.

The current superintendent is Richard A. McMahon. He began his career as a Social Studies Teacher at Southern Nash High School. He later served as Assistant Principal at Nash Central Middle School and Principal at Benvenue Middle School and Southern Nash Middle School. Mr. McMahon received the 1999 Wachovia Principal of the Year Award for Nash-Rocky Mount Schools.

Beginning in the year 2006, all schools in the Nash-Rocky Mount School System are required to hold the Graduation ceremony inside.

Beginning November 5, 2006, all students must have a legal guardian with the proper ID present in order to check out of school.

History

Rocky Mount City Schools merged with the Nash County Schools in 1992. Southern Nash High School took the place of Spring Hope High,Coopers High 1-12,Bailey High,and Middlesex High.
