Nakshatra, The All India Annual MCA meet of country's premier Technical Institutions, is an annual technical event organized by the MCA students of National Institute of Technology Calicut . Nakshatra is a galore of cerebral minds & has everything to conquer your imagination. Nevertheless the arena also serves as a social forum for MCA technocrats to meet and blossom out independently.

Nakshatra was started in year 2007 by the MCA 2004-2007 Batch.

Mission

Nakshatra unleashes the talent and creativity of the brightest minds all around and gives them unprecedented opportunity to immerse themselves in the plethora of future technocrats.

Vision

To create a concrete platform, where different people with common minds canalize their passion and instincts to re-invent themselves and re-create a society which stands hyphenated with some of the most glorious works of the software realm.

History

Nakshatra 2007

The will to create, the brilliance to innovate, the zeal to accomplish, the patience to learn, the diligence to teach, and above all the passion to succeed. These are what define NAKSHATRA, and yet there is more. NAKSHATRA is not just a forum to pit our minds against one another. This is a place where we let ideas and dreams swim free in the infinite sea of knowledge and information.
Nakshatra'07 was a success where we had participants from all over India competing one another. From the smartest students to brilliant academicians, we had everything.

It was a year where we had eminent personalities like:

• Mr. Anand Parthasarathy [The Technical Editor of The Hindu] Delivered a Beautiful Talk on "Trends and technologies in the Age of Internet"

• Mr. Yashavant Kanetkar [popular author of programming books like Let us C,Understanding Pointers In C and Test Your C Skills] Spoke on "Going Embedded".
• Mr. Khan Zakir Hussain From a Private Security Solution Provider Delivered an Enlightning Lecture on "Security & Ethical Hacking".

• Mr. Gopal Venkatesan from Yahoo! Inc conducted a Work Shop on " AJAX ".

Nakshatra 2008

The much awaited Nakshatra 2008 was completed with a huge success taking Nakshatra to a new height of competitiveness and awareness of technology. Nakshatra 08 provided the much needed experience and social interaction of MCA students all over India besides showing their talents to one another. As a result it provided a positive competitiveness among the student community. The smart people took the trophy and the smartest took the experience to their kitty of life.

Exciting feature of Nakshatra 08 was the addition of gaming event with a theme "All day work make Jack a dull boy"

Eminent speakers of 2008 Nakshatra :

• Dr. C Mohan IBM India chief scientist from IBM gave a talk on "Global Technology Outlook"

• Dr.Kingshuk Banerjee Chief Architect of Web 2.0 @ Wipro delivered an Expert Lecture on " Semantic web".

• Mr. Pravat Lall Director of Engineering (Secutriy Software Dvelopment) @ McAfee Spoke about "Information Security Trends".

• Mr. Subramanayam Murali Technical Yahoo! Inc Discussed about "The current state of Web "and"Yahoo! UI libraries".

• Mr. Vimal Harnal Area Director(South Asia) @ Contact Singapore described The benefits of "Working and Living in Singapore".

Nakshatra 2009

This time Nakshatra got its slogan as Out of Beta !!.This was most successful edition with highest participation from all Technical colleges all over India. This edition introduced Management events first time into Nakshatra.

• Ankit Fadia Internationally Standing Ethical Hacker. presented seminar on "Hacked !!! Hacking Mobile Phones"
• Dr. K. Kesavasamy presented seminar on The Key Attributes for a Solution Provider
• Mr. Vinod A.S. directed all to Animation Workshop

Cultural Event

• SYMPHONY@NIT Calicut - Talent Show

'SYMPHONY@NIT Calicut' is a singing talent contest to determine the best singing talent who can rock the audience.we invite those dynamic personalities who can really rock the stage not only by their singing but by their overall performance!

A singing competition where each participant (or group) will be given a time limit of '5-7 mins' and where points will be awarded based on their overall performance which includes the body language, confidence, dressing, performance etc.
