NTest is an Othello/Reversi program created by Chris Welty. NTest is a strong othello program, with a high quality evaluation function and fast search algorithms. It has lots of features with the most important one, the display of the results of the search for all possible moves.[1] NTest was among the strongest programs until 2005, but it cannot compare to nowadays programs which have much faster bitboard-based move generators and are able to do parallel searches on multicore-CPU.

Unfortunately, the official NTest opening book is outdated. It hasn't been update since 2005 and contains many blunders (allowing positions that are proven losses). However, there is an open source project intended to construct a very large, high quality NTest book. See [2]. Other programs' opening books such as Edax's book are useful as well for NTest to be undefeatable and play perfectly in standard games.[3]
