- NHS Alliance
-
The NHS Alliance was formed to bring together Primary Care Trusts with practices, clinicians with managers. It was formed in 1999, but has its roots in the Locality Commissioning Groups that formed in the early 1990s.[1]
Members
Though NHS Alliance represents the majority of Primary Care Trusts, many of its members are individual members - GPs, nurses, PAMs, managers and lay board members. Some Strategic Health Authorities are members and also a wide variety of organisations involved in primary care such as the Royal College of Nursing, Community Practitioners and Health Visitors Association, National Association of Non Principals, the British Dental Association and the Primary Care Pharmacists Association.
Currently there are national groups and support networks for PCT chief executives, PCT chairs and non-execs, PCT PEC chairs, PCT nurses, PCT allied professionals, PCT clinical governance leads and PCT directors of public health. Strategy in terms of internal and external policy is determined by the membership with input from the national executive and advisory groups. Policy days open to all members are held twice a year.
The officers of the NHS Alliance are Michael Dixon, Chairman, Mike Sobanja, Chief Executive[2] and Professor Chris Drinkwater, President.[3]
