It was first held during the inaugural season for the Craftsman Truck Series in 1995, and remained a part of the series through the 1997 season.
History
The first race, called the Racing Champions 200, was held on April 8, 1995; the second race in Truck Series history. The race was won by Ron Hornaday Jr. in the #16 Racing Collectables Club of America Chevrolet for Dale Earnhardt Inc. He held off P.J. Jones for his first series win in what was the first green-white-checker finish in NASCAR history. The 1996 race, now sponsored by NAPA, was held on May 25 and won by Mike Skinner in the #3 GM Goodwrench Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing. Skinner took the lead from Rich Bickle, who led the first 126 laps, and led the final 74.
In 1997, the race was held on May 1 and won once again by Ron Hornaday, now in a NAPA-branded #16. He held off Rich Bickle after a back-and-forth battle in the second half of the race. Due to this being the final race to-date at the track, Hornaday is the only two-time winner at Tucson.
