BMW N74B60 engine Manufacturer BMW, Bayerische(Bavarian) Motoren Werke AG Production 2009-present Predecessor BMW N73 Class DOHC 60 degree V12 The N74 a V12 engine built by BMW in Munich, Germany. As of 2009 it is the company's flagship engine in the 7-Series, only being offered in the Li long wheelbase variant.
The N74 is BMW's first ever V12 engine to feature twin-turbocharging, the use of a TwinPower Turbo twin-scroll turbochargers, and High Precision Injection. It also features Valvetronic and Double VANOS, which is usually found on mainstream modern BMW petrol/gasoline engines; the N74 was the first BMW engine to feature these technologies on a turbocharged and/or high-performance engine.
The engine marked the world's first application of the new ZF 8HP transmission, an 8 speed automatic designed to reduce fuel consumption at higher speeds with the introduction of the 7th and 8th gears, which reduce engine speeds dramatically.

The N74B60 displaces 5,972 cc (5.972 L; 364.4 cu in) and produces 544 bhp (406 kW) at 5250 rpm and 750 N·m (550 lb·ft) between 1500 and 5000 rpm[1].
An enlarged version of the N74, displacing 6.6 litres and boasting in excess of 570 bhp (430 kW) will feature in the forth coming Rolls-Royce Ghost.
