Murray McDavid

Murray McDavid is an independent bottler of single malt Scotch whisky. Its bottlings are usually diluted-strength (rather than cask strength), and blended from multiple casks (rather than being single-cask bottlings).[1] They are not chill-filtered, nor do they have any coloring added.

Murray McDavid was established in 1996. It was founded by Mark Reynier, Simon Coughlin, and Gordon Wright (who had previously been a director at Springbank Distillery). To help in giving the company a Scottish identity, it was named after Reynier's grandparents, Harriet Murray and Jock McDavid.

Among the first Murray McDavid bottlings was a nine-year-old Laphroaig. Its release prompted legal action from Laphroaig's owner, Allied Domecq, alleging infringement of copyright. To comply, Murray McDavid ceased using the "Laphroaig" name, and released the next Laphroaig bottling with the label indicating the distillery of origin as "Leapfrog".[2] These bottles are now sought after by collectors.

On December 19, 2000, Murray McDavid purchased the then-dormant Bruichladdich distillery and returned it to production.
