It is situated between two canals. The name refers to the Mundair, one of the castes in Hinduism. Further, the word Syedan refers to the Syed, one of the castes in Islam. This was because the Syeds migrated here and purchased the land from Hindus and Sikhs. Today the majority of the population of the village is made up by Syeds. This village is named Mundair Kalan (منڈیر کلاں) in documents. The two other neighbouring villages are named Mundair Khurd (منڈیر خُرد) and Mundair Kothey (منڈیر کوٹھے).
There is a shrine of the Sufi mystic Hazrat Mehboob-e-Zaat Syed Ahmad Hussain Gilani Qadri (1898–1961) and his son Hazrat Sakhiy-e-Kamil Syed Afzaal Ahmad Hussain Gilani (1926–1998). There are also many other shrines of other Sufis and their relatives but these two shrines have their own identities.
