Mudigonda Lingamurthy, shortly Lingamurthy (Telugu: ముదిగొండ లింగమూర్తి) (b: October 10, 1908 - d: January 24, 1980) is a famous Character actor in Telugu drama and cinema and writer in South India.,[1][2]

Life sketch

He is born in a Veerashaiva family in Tenali, Andhra Pradesh. He used to play in school dramas in childhood. He is used to like arts and introduced to Sthanam Narasimha Rao. He has joined Rama Vilasa Sabha of Tenali and played different characters in Kanyasulkam, Pratapa Rudreeyam and other dramas. He has become popular and earned fame for his portrayal of Ramappa Pantulu character in Kanyasulkam drama.[3]

He has moved to filmdom in 1937 and acted in Tukaram along with Chittor V. Nagaiah. He joined Vauhini pictures, asssociated with them for about 7 years and acted as Ajamisa in Bhakta Potana, Gangadu in Swarga Seema, Abirama in Yogi Vemana and Ramadas in Peddamanushulu. He was closely associated with Nagaiah and acted in his films like Tyagayya, Naa Illu and Ramadasu. He has acted in about 70 films during his career.

Lingamurthy wrote some playlets including Venkanna Kapuram, Pelli Choopulu, Thyagam. They are played widely and won many prizes. Some of them translated to other languages.

He was founder member of Cine Technicians Association. He has held the posts of its Secretory and Chairperson of this Association for sometime. He has taken retirement after his Sashtiabdhapoorthi celebrations.

After the death of his wife in 1974, he took Sanyasa and spend his last days at Varanasi. He has died in 1980.
