Mount Liszt

Mount Liszt

Mount Liszt (71°29′S 72°0′W / 71.483°S 72°W / -71.483; -72) is a snow-covered mountain, about 600 m, with a scarp on its southeast side, rising 5 nautical miles (9 km) northeast of Mount Frieg, Beethoven Peninsula, in the southwest part of Alexander Island. A number of mountains in this vicinity first appear on maps by the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (RARE), 1947-48. This mountain, apparently one of these, was mapped from RARE air photos by Searle of the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS) in 1960. Named by United Kingdom Antarctic Place-Names Committee (UK-APC) after Franz Liszt (1811–86), Hungarian composer.
