Morgan Dana Harrington (1989 - 2009) was abducted from a Metallica concert in Charlottesville, Virginia in October 2009.[1]
20-year-old Harrington was abducted after leaving the John Paul Jones Arena, where she had gone with friends to see the band Metallica play on 17th October 2009. The student was last seen attempting to hitch a ride on a bridge south of the arena.[2][3]
Her body was eventually found in January 2010, and state police told journalists that the medical examiner's office in Richmond could confirm that the decomposed body found were the remains of the student. Authorities said they were still attempting to determine the cause of Harrington's death. It was reported that she was killed the night she disappeared.[4][5][6]
Following her kidnapping, her family set up a website in the hope that she would be found. On the website, Harrington is described as someone who "brought much joy and fun to family and friends for 20 years. Her light and potential were extinguished when she was abducted."[7]
Forensic evidence gathered in the investigation into the slaying of the Virginia Tech student matches that from an unsolved 2005 abduction and sexual assault in northern Virginia, state police stated. The suspect is described as a black male, 25 to 35 years old, approximately 6 feet tall with a medium build, with black hair, a beard and a mustache.
A year after losing their daughter, the family began pressing the state to escalate its use of familial DNA testing.[8]
