He also served as director of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) of Joint Chiefs of Staff (Republic of Korea), and as the Commanding General of Korea Army Training Center (often referred to as Nonsan Training Center). Also, he previously was director of bureau of investigation of the Korean CIA (KCIA, currently National Intelligence Service).

Business career

After his retirement from the ROK Army as major general, Han headed insurance companies for 15 years. He became the CEO of Dongbang Marine & Fire Insurance (Hyundai Insurance Group) and later CEO of Haedong Fire & Marine Insurance (Regent Pacific Group). As a devout Roman Catholic, Han co-founded the Korean Catholic Entrepreneurs Association in 1979.

Educational career

Han was named chairman of the board of Kumoh Education Foundation, which owns Kumoh National Institute of Technology and Kumoh Technical High School. In 1976, Han founded "La Espero el Koreio," a public relations magazine which introduced Korean culture and literature to the world in Esperanto. In total, 123 editions were published before the discontinuance of the magazine in 1994. Han and his publication "La Espero" played a crucial role in the development of Esperanto in Korea.[3] He served as chairman of the organizing committee of the World Congress of Esperanto, and presently he is the only Korean honorary member of the World Esperanto Association (Universala Esperanto-Asocio)[4] and honorary chairman of KEA.
