He started playing for Natal Sharks in youth competitions and had short spells with the Leopards and Western Province for the 2004 Vodacom Cup. In 2007, he made his breakthrough to the Natal Sharks team, also being included in the Sharks Super Rugby squad in 2009 and 2010. In 2010, he joined the Eastern Province Kings on loan during their title-winning 2010 Currie Cup First Division season, finishing as their top points scorer. It was later announced that he would join them on a permanent deal for 2011. Before the 2011 Currie Cup First Division season started, however, it was announced that he joined Griquas.
Dumond also played in Europe for Overmach Parma in Italy in 2004-05, then in France for Stade aurillacois (2005–06), Racing Métro 92 (2006–07) and US Oyonnax (January–June 2008) before returning to South Africa.
