Caylee's body, her mouth duct-taped and her body placed in a plastic garbage bag, was found five months later in a wooded area a half mile from the Orlando, Florida, home of Casey's parents, George and Cindy Anthony. Mommy's Little Girl was the first book released about the Anthony case.[1][2]
Then-22-year-old Casey Anthony, Caylee's mother, who was later indicted for first-degree murder in her daughter's death, faced a capital murder charge in her trial, which began May 9, 2011, with the jury selection.[3] On the eve of jury selection, author Fanning appeared as a commentator on TruTV's "InSession."[4] After the jury acquitted Anthony in July 2011, Fanning told My San Antonio that she was "stunned" by the "not guilty" verdict.[5]
Reviews
The Orlando Sentinel, in its 2009 book review, wrote that Fanning "tirelessly recounts the young woman's lying ways, theorizes how Anthony might have disposed of her daughter and concludes that Anthony is 'an individual whose self-absorption and insensitivity to others is a destructive force.'"[6]
The producers of CBS's "48 Hours" wrote in their review, "This timely account weaves together the details surrounding this highly publicized case, about the tragic death of a little girl whose fate captivated a nation.[7] And WKMG-Channel 6 in Orlando gave it a thumbs up, saying the book "condenses those thousands and thousands of court documents into an easy-to-read story."[8]
