Mohan Shah is an acclaimed actor, anchor, singer and director.

He was born at Anantnag town in Kashmir on 5th September 1956. Mohan Shah is the sixth born but fourth surviving child of his parents and younger brother of Maharaj Shah, a renowned artist, writer, director of Kashmir. In his early childhood, he was public and female shy but very bold, strong and sharp at studies. A loner by nature, he did his first public performance at the age of 10 as “lav” in a dharmic ramleela receiving great acclaim and soon joined a theatre group of young artists and featured in a seventy year old servant’s role reflecting his wide range and capability as an actor.

Graduating from degree college in Anantnag, Shah joined the department of economics of Kashmir university and simultaneously came in contact with elite theatre stalwarts like Ashok Jailkhani, Zafrani, M.L.Saraf and even K.K. Raina of Bollywood fame who appreciated his performance in Jailkhani directed plays.

After some stage performances Shah got the attention of Doordarshan stalwarts and got a major breakthrough with a leading role in J.K Zutshi Sahib’s play RAACH DAR and within no time got fame and familiarity within the valley. Illness of his father and other domestic compulsions compelled Mohan to leave the post graduation half way and he joined A.G’s deptt. as auditor and carried on the artistic activities side by side, acted in dozens of TV plays and serials and getting acclaim from all corners.

Shah got married in October 1979 and supports a daughter and a son. The disruption of peace and subsequent migration of Kashmiri Pandits from valley did not dampen the artistic spirits of this artist. Instead he supported his brother and another producer Ravi Tickoo and made a historical documentary on kp migrants “ Kashmir ghati key visthapit” directed by Maharaj Shah, earning the group wide acclaim. Encouraged, Shah wrote a film on migration and the age-old harmony and saintly character of Kashmiri’s ethos entitled “ LAUT AUO” for Doordarshan and himself directed it. He cast Maharaj Shah, himself and Vinay Raina in the leading roles and introduced a group of talented new comer boys and girls in the film. ”LAUT AUO” was a great success and was telecast a record number of twelve times from DD METRO and the national channel establishing him as a name in the media.

His son Amit a post-graduate in business management has also established himself as a producer with his banner “SCINTILLA FILMS” and recently produced a landmark serial on communal harmony of Kashmir “KAR MOKLI SAFAR” engaging MOHAN SHAH as its director. The serial has been telecast from DDkashir and repeat telecast within two months only. His daughter is married and settled in the United States.

His performance as Pratap in "Aur Kitni Door" directed by Maharaj Shah has been widely appreciated. [1]
