TNA Bound for Glory

TNA Bound for Glory

Bound for Glory is a professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event, produced every October by the American professional wrestling promotion, Total Nonstop Action (TNA). The event was created in 2005 to be their premier event of the year, similar to the company's main rival World Wrestling Entertainment with their WrestleMania event.

Since its inception in 2005, the event has only been held in the United States. It has been held in three U.S. states, where every event has been held in an indoor arena. Each event featured talent from TNA competing in various professional wrestling match types. Since the inaugural event, three championship matches have taken place in the main event. In all three bouts the championship was lost, which means no one has retained the World Heavyweight Championship in the main event at Bound for Glory thus far. The fourth event is scheduled to take place on October 12, 2008 at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

History

Bound for Glory is a pay-per-view (PPV) event consisting of a main event and undercard that feature championship matches and other various matches. There have been a total of three events under this name to take place as of 2008. The first Bound for Glory event took place on October 23, 2005 and aired live on PPV from the TNA Impact! Zone in Orlando, Florida.cite web|url=http://www.wrestleview.com/news2005/1130122788.shtml|title=Bound for Glory PPV Results - 10/23/05 - Orlando (New World Champ)|last=Martin|first=Adam|date=2005-10-23|accessdate=2008-10-03|publisher=WrestleView.com] The Impact! Zone is a soundstage owned by Universal Studios and operated within Universal Studios Florida; it is the home to TNA's primary television program TNA Impact!, from which the soundstage gets its name. The 2006 edition was the first TNA three hour monthly PPV event to take place outside of the Impact! Zone. This was the beginning of TNA trying to hold more of its monthly PPVs on the road. The next event held by TNA to follow this new decision was TNA's third main PPV Lockdown, which was held in April 2007.cite web|url=http://www.wrestleview.com/news2006/1176692333.shtml|title=Lockdown PPV Results - 4/15/07 St. Louis, Missouri (Lethal Lockdown)|last=Martin|first=Adam|date=2007-04-15|accessdate=2008-10-03|publisher=WrestleView.com] In 2007 TNA held Bound for Glory again outside of the Impact! Zone, this time in Duluth, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia, at the Gwinnett Center on October 14, 2007.cite web|url=http://pwtorch.com/artman2/publish/PPV_Reports_5/article_23190.shtml|title=10/14 TNA Bound for Glory PPV Report: Schwimmer's "alt perspective" detailed rundown|last=Schwimmer|first=Ryan J.|date=2007-10-16|accessdate=2008-10-03|publisher=PWTorch.com] Two notable facts about this event are: It was TNA's PPV debut in the Atlanta area and was the fourth TNA monthly PPV event held outside of the Impact! Zone. The 2008 event is scheduled to take place on October 12 at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, Illinois; this will be TNA's long awaited debut in the area, as stated by TNA.

2005

The inaugural event was Bound for Glory 2005. It was held on October 23, 2005 at the Impact! Zone in Orlando, Florida.cite web|url=http://pwtorch.com/artman2/publish/PPV_Reports_5/article_15202.shtml|title=10/23 TNA Bound for Glory PPV: Caldwell's "Alternative Perspective" review|last=Caldwell|first=James|date=2005-10-23|accessdate=2008-10-03|publisher=PWTorch.com] It featured ten professional wrestling matches; before the event aired live, a match took place to hype up the crowd before the show, also known as a dark match.cite web|url=http://www.prowrestlinghistory.com/supercards/usa/misc/tna/glory.html#2005|title=Bound for Glory 2005 at Pro Wrestling History.com|accessdate=2008-10-03|publisher=Pro Wrestling History.com] The official tagline for the event was "A Time for Greatness". The show was dedicated to Reggie "The Crusher" Lisowski, who had died the night before the event. The event had an a attendance of 900, which is the maximum capacity that the Impact! Zone can hold. The event grossed $45,000. The originally scheduled main event was supposed to have been Jeff Jarrett versus Kevin Nash for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship with Tito Ortiz (Jacob Ortiz) as the Special Guest Referee, but the day before the event, Nash began to feel chest pains and called 9-1-1.cite web|url=http://www.wrestleview.com/news2005/1130049441.shtml|title=Breaking News: Kevin Nash rushed to hospital; PPV title match jeopardy|last=Martin|first=Adam|date=2005-10-23|accessdate=2008-10-03|publisher=WrestleView.com] This left no one to challenge for the NWA Championship in the main event. At the event, Rhino (Terry Gerin) was chosen to take Nash's place, after he was scripted to win a ten man Gauntlet for the Gold match.

Not only did the event feature Jeff Jarrett versus Rhino for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship with Special Guest Referee Tito Ortiz but it also featured a 30 minute Iron Man match for the TNA X Division Championship between A.J. Total Nonstop InterAction

Total Nonstop InterAction is a special event TNA holds at each of its top pay-per-view events, such as Lockdown, Slammiversary, and of course Bound for Glory. The event is mainly what TNA calls a fanfest. At each event, fans of the promotion come to meet stars of the promotion and get their autographs. The first event was held the Saturday before the inaugural Bound for Glory event in 2005.cite web|url=http://www.wrestleview.com/news2005/1130019371.shtml|title=Report from TNA's Bound for Glory Fanfest earlier today in Orlando, FL...|last=Martin|Adam|date=2005-10-22|accessdate=2008-10-03|publisher=WrestleView.com] Fans could pay $60 in advance or $70 at the door to receive admission; they also received first priority seating to the Bound for Glory event, since Universal discouraged charging admission to the pay-per-view. TNA has since then hosted a fanfest at each year's event. The next fanfest is scheduled to take place on October 11, 2008 at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare in Rosemont, Illinois; the event will start at 11 a.m.cite web|url=http://www.tnawrestling.com/content/view/1057/84/|title=Sting Added To The TNA Chicago Fanfest|date=2008-09-11|accessdate=2008-10-03|publisher=TNA Wrestling.com]
