Mohamadou Bayero Fadil, born December 19, 1960 in Garoua, is a businessman from Cameroon. He is Chief Executive Officer, CEO, of the Group Fadil, a powerful agro-industrial group in Central Africa, which operates in several sectors including soap, oil extraction, tourism, livestock and new information technologies. He is also the Board Chairman of the Cameroon Standards and Quality Agency, ANOR and also serves as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Standardization and Metrology for Islamic Countries, the SMIIC. A member of several structures to fight against corruption and the promotion of good governance, chaired by Cameroon’s Prime Minister, Head of Government he is a member of the ruling CPDM party Central Committee, and Vice-President of Coordination of his party in the Wouri constituency.

Family background

His biological parents are all from the North Region of Cameroon, birth place of Cameroon’s first President Ahmadou Ahidjo. His father El Hadj Fadil Abdoulaye Hassoumi and Adja Ahoua Doudou (the mother), are all Fulani (Fulbe), a dynamic tribe whose main economic activities are based on livestock and trade. With an exceptional creative mind, the founder of the Group Fadil - www.fadilgroup.net- judiciously exploited the strategic, economic and commercial potentials of Cameroon Chemical Complex -CCC, the backbone of the of the Fadil chain of companies. When he quit the scene in 1993, it was an immeasurably and vast legacy that he bequeathed to Mohamadou Bayero Fadil to keep the flame burning.

In 1999, Mohamadou Bayero Fadil got married to Fatima Gumsu from Nigeria. She is the daughter of former Nigerian President Sani Abacha - www.saniabacha.com. They have been blessed with five children, three boys and two girls.

Academic profile

Bayero Fadil has a sound academic background thanks to the rigour of American schools and universities of repute. His managerial prowess is eloquent testimony of this training. A computer enthusiast, he is a graduate of Georgetown University, Washington and the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in New York, USA. In 1984, while he was being solicited by top U.S companies including IBM, NT § T and American Express, he preferred to returned to Cameroon prefer to contribute to its economic development.

Track record

Be it at the Complex Chemique Camerounais- CCC, Hotel Le Meridien and Salt producing unit, Selcam important responsibilities were entrusted to him before being appointed Director General of Complex Chemique Camerounais, CCC. In that position he definitively impressed with a new business vision. The Group Fadil experienced a remarkable growth with pronounced diversification of products, redeployment of personnel and modernization of manufacturing processes of CCC products.

Politics

Besides being a renowned industrialist for more than two decades now, is the image of a seasoned and respected politician. Mohamadou Bayero Fadil has been an active militant of the ruling Cameroon People Democratic Movement, CPDM, since its creation in 1985, by President Paul Biya. He is has been a member of the Central Committee of this party since 1996 and from 1997 till today is the assistant coordinator of that party’s activity in Douala, Cameroon’s economic capital and an opposition stronghold. It is thanks to his dynamism and commitment that the CPDM regained political control of this strategic city, which had fallen to the opposition during the protest in years.

Mohamadou Bayero Fadil is also a master of difficult situations within the party. He has successfully led reconciliation missions in the party. In 1997 he was the provincial coordinator for the renewal of party structures in the West Region and again in 2002 the supervise primaries within the party ahead of the 2002 general and municipal elections.

Building on these successes and experiences, he is often solicited to resolve problems and conflicts within the party throughout the country as was the case in the town of Abong Mbang in the East Cameroon in 2007 and Yagoua Mindif in the Far North in 2008 and 2009. It should be noted that Bayero Fadil declares to bee having increasing interest in politics. On a number of occasions he is called upon to be part of the President’s entourage during official trips abroad. This was the case in 2010 during the last France-Africa summit in Nice France. Mohamadou Bayero Fadil presented an important discourse on corporate social responsibility.

Achievements

When he was promoted to the top of Group Fadil in 1994, Bayero Fadil created new structures to render some of the activities independent. The following were created: SOGEDEL (cattle) CAIC (Agriculture) EMG (Equatorial Media Group) publisher of DIKALO newspaper CAMNEWS24 (television) and Hit Radio SIFI (Estates) SELCAM (Salt) SNC Cocotiers LAGOON BLUE (tourism and hotels) TIKO SOAP (soap). Thanks to his vision he doubled the land assets of the CCC in 2008, becoming the largest company in the industrial Bassa zone. This space is intended for other agro-industrial projects.

To undertake all the activities mentioned above and improve the working conditions of employees of the Group, Bayero Fadil understood that the group needed a headquarters that would in 2010; reflect his vision of economic activities in Cameroon. Thus in 2004, was completed the futuristic seat of the Group, majestically imposing on a total area of 1250 m2. It is five storeys, 1035 m2 occupied by offices. It is the tallest building in the Bassa industrial complex.

Engaged in seeking solutions to global development, member and consultant to the World Economic Forum (WEF) and the Forum for Investment and Finance in Africa (EMRC), among others, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Standards and Quality Agency (ANOR), Bayero Fadil conscious of his ethical values, led the Group to subscribe freely and simply to the concept of corporate social responsibility (CSR). As such, he observed inter alia, that the Bassa industrial zone of Douala- and its surrounding areas were home to a large Muslim community and that it lacked a place of worship dedicated to prayer on Friday. Thus the group decided to build a mosque in the precincts of its facilities. This mosque, built on an area of 443 m2 has a courtyard of approximately 1500 m2. It is equipped with standard facilities. The structure consists of columns, beams and some masonry bearing, all covered by a deck with reinforced concrete. The coatings are glazed stoneware, enamel, ceiling staff (prayer hall and gallery). It was inaugurated August 13, 2010 by the main Imam of the city of Douala before an audience of important personalities.

Also within context of Social Responsibility and aware of the fact that access to clean water for the underprivileged was still a worry in Cameroon, Bayero Fadil has also decided to invest in this sector through a department of Corporate Social Responsibity, CSR, a new department in the Group Fadil. Its objective is to promote the in dynamics of community development. It is within this that it donated borehole equipped with modern water points to the residents of CCC in the Ndogsimbi neighborhood in Douala and was inaugurated February 25, 2011 administrative authorities.

Avenue Elhadj Fadil

March 17, 2011 is a date that Bayero Fadil will live to remember: it marked a milestone in the life of this family following the naming of an avenue that now bears his family name. Under the chairmanship of the Governor of the Littoral Region Avenue El Hadj Abdoulaye Fadil was inaugurated in the presence of a curious audience and top local and administrative official. On the behalf of the family, Mohamadou Bayero Fadil, said the naming did not only represent recognition of a city but that of the entire nation to a man that respected human values and Republican principles. As he loves to emphasize, "I now live 90 and work at 278 Avenue El Hadj Abdoulaye Fadil" .... What pride!
