Mitu Bhowmick Lange

Mitu Bhowmick Lange is the company director of Mind Blowing Films,[1] a Melbourne based film company that distributes Indian films throughout Australia and New Zealand. It also provides local production support to Indian films shot in Australia and New Zealand.

Through Mind Blowing Films she has helped to secure mainstream exhibition for Indian films alongside their Hollywood counterparts in Australian and New Zealand cinema chains such as Hoyts and Greater Union.

The Indian Film Festival - Bollywood & Beyond

Bhowmick Lange is the founder and festival director of the Indian Film Festival - Bollywood & Beyond. She launched the festival in 2010 to act as a cultural bridge between the Australian and Indian communities.[2]

Background

After finishing film school, she worked in Bombay for 6 years directing several TV shows including a daily breakfast show and entertainment, news and fashion magazine programs for most of the leading channels including BBC World, Star Plus, Zee TV and Sony Entertainment Television Asia.

Having moved to Australia she attracted and produced several Indian productions including thirteen episodes, shot in Australia, of India’s number one daily television serial Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii (similar to Neighbours), and line-produced the Bollywood films Koi Aap Saath, Salaam Namaste,[3] Chak De! India, Bachna Aye Haseeno, Main Aurr Mrs Khanna,[4] Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic, Love Aaj Kal and produced several television commercials starring international cricketers made for the Indian market.

Other Work

She is also the Australian and New Zealand curator for the International Film Festival of India.[5] Established in 1952, IFFI is the oldest film festival in Asia and the largest in India.

She is currently directing and producing a 4-part documentary series titled, "New India".

Personal life

Mitu is married to Roy James Lange, eldest son of former New Zealand Prime Minister, David Lange. They met while studying at Delhi University. Roy spent over ten years living in India and speaks fluent Hindi.
