- 1911 Overland OctoAuto
-
The Octoauto was an eight wheel car created by Milton O. Reeves. He created it using a 1910 Overland and he added two more axles and four more "guncart-style wheels". The automobile was shown at the inaugural Indianapolis 500 held in 1911. The car was over 20 feet long. Reeves went on to invent a car muffler.[1] He claimed that by having eight tires, each tire lasted longer.[2]

"Zero orders for the patently ugly and silly OctoAuto apparently didn't discourage Reeves, who tried again the next year with the Sextauto (six wheels, single front axle design). Reeves is remembered today as the inventor of the muffler, which is far from ignominy."
